About Charles

Charles L. Mester, Esq. is a seasoned attorney at SACCO & FILLAS, LLP, focusing his practice on residential and commercial real estate transactions in New York and New Jersey. During his over three decades as a member of the New York and New Jersey state bars, Mr. Mester has conducted hundreds of residential and commercial real estate closings. His transactional work focuses on advising and collaborating with investors who are buying and selling distressed properties while also handling routine matters covering all types of sales, purchases, and refinancings of residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties in New York and throughout the State of New Jersey. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Mester began providing free education to first-time homebuyers and real estate investment groups in weekly webinars while also becoming general counsel to a startup real estate venture capital company where he structured the acquisition and closing of undervalued commercial real estate. In addition to his transactional experience, Mr. Mester has prosecuted and defended various types of civil litigation and appeals in the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey, including matters involving cooperative and condominium associations, collection matters, quiet title disputes, housing court proceedings, and other commercial, business, and real estate litigation matters. His ability to understand real estate litigation has taught Mr. Mester how to better protect his clients in all types of real estate transactions. Before joining Sacco & Fillas LLP, Mr. Mester operated his own law practice with offices in New York and New Jersey and worked with several Manhattan and Brooklyn law firms handling real estate, commercial, landlord-tenant, and general transactional and litigation matters. He also served as the sole litigation partner at a boutique practice primarily representing cooperative and condominium clients. Mr. Mester graduated from the University of Rochester in 1986 with a double major in Economics and English and a Certificate in Management. He earned his J.D. from New York Law School in 1991, where he served as Articles Editor of the Journal of Human Rights. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as before multiple federal courts, including the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
